Warp Strings: The Light String

According to the Elder Race and Lesser Weavers, in my new fiction novel, the Light String is one component of the Weave, the separator and connector of all reality. The Light String is one warp string made of many lesser threads twisted together.

The Threads of the Light Warp String

The Light String is based loosely on the idea of light being introduced into the cosmos early in the creation story told in the Hebrew bible.

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.” Genesis 1:1-4

Light precedes the ordering of the material world. What existed first was non-existence. Formless, Void, empty, waste, dark, deep waters. Chaos. Unlimited Potential. All possibility at all times in all places is characterized by the deep or dark waters. The void, emptiness…this characterizes that which is anti God.

God is the source of all possible things, places and times. Because God exists therefore any and every possible and potential thing to place or time also can exist. God’s existence is countered (by default) by the deep, the waters of unlimited possibility, the unrealized, uncreated, unordered, intangible, inexistent, non-God, everything else.

God’s act of creating the heavens and earth, 2 realms, was an act of choice, an exercise of free will to extract from every possible iteration of proposed reality, from infinite possibilities, just one path forward. Or perhaps God’s act of creating was a way of creating, a pattern of extracting from the darkness; the expression of will (let there be) and the act of choosing (light). The extraction of one possibility from the dark swarm of possibilities. The taking of that one idea out of the pool of every idea and bringing it into existence as a reality. The first creation was the first choice, the first act of order. Light. The eternal tool for scouring the darkness; the perpetual standard of Good. The capacity for sight and distinction.

Thread One: Vision

As rational thinkers, we envision a potential, and rather than act upon it, we imagine what it would be like first. We consider what it would do if we did call it into being and put energy into it. We give it a trial run in our minds eye, giving it a pseudo “evening and morning”, it’s first day. Often times, it never makes it to morning light. It doesn’t survive the test that comes with night’s darkness and the onslaught of uncertainties. Often, the idea is devoured by the beasts that prowl in the dark, any number of potential dangerous, foolish or illogical oppositions. If it’s a bad idea, we let it return to the deep where it belongs. If it’s a good idea it will either have less opposition and survive until the figurative dawn, or we, having weighed the opposition and dangers, found it worthy of attention and worthy still of protection, defending it until the light reveals its facets.

Some good ideas we return to the darkness because we are afraid of the cost it lays upon us, because it’s time isn’t come or because our time isn’t come. Some good ideas we call into being and imbue with spirit. (We also do that with bad ideas but that’s another story.) The point is, we humans are image bearers of God. We can See, though limited, as the Creator sees. The Creator operates with Vision so we operate with Vision.

Thread Two: Truth

God is light, according to the apostle John.

“5This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” 1 John1:5-6

God can be understood as the source of all energy that radiates out from God’s self into all things, holding the electrons of every atom in suspension. From every gas to every rock, every blade of grass or chirping cricket, all things are reverberating the frequency endowed to them from their Source. Parroting the laws of physics, nothing is created or destroyed outside of Him. His Cosmos is the closed system in which energy can only be converted. He exited atoms, He is nuclear. God is light and fellowship with that light is a practice of truth, according to John. Just as Energy undergirds everything, Truth undergirds everything too.

Thread Three: Good

There is a problem though. The darkness is full of just as many bad ideas as good ones. It’s full of bad alternatives to God, monsters, evils, misery, pain, despair, suffering, uselessness, nonsense…remember, unlimited potential. Without God’s great perspective (the creator is above creation), permission and protection, we inevitably make poor choices when engaging the darkness. When the Creator Sees and calls forth light into reality it is to call forth that which is Good.

Thread Four: Constance

The speed of light in a vacuum is know as C for constant. Light is the only thing that doesn’t change across space and time. In my novel, the Orders which connect readily to the Light Warp String are the Dividers, Seekers, Watchers and Seers. They See in the natural well as well as the unseen places of the mind, heart and intentions. They see in the dream realm, the 2nd realm, the underworld, and along the weave.
