Warp Strings: The Spirit String
According to the Elder Race and Lesser Weavers, in my new fiction novel, the Spirit String is one component of the Weave, the separator and connector of all reality. The Spirit String is one warp string made of many lesser threads twisted together.
The Threads of the Spirit Warp String
The Spirit String is based loosely on the idea that the divine, energizing Holy Spirit of God is an integral part of reality in this world as much as it is in the unseen realm. According to the Hebrew Bible, as understood by Isaiah, a prophet or seer of YHWH, he describes a seven-fold Spirit of God. In my novel, I’ve incorporated these seven-fold spirits, or aspects of God’s Spirit, as separate threads that make up the Spirit String. They are as follows according to Isaiah 11:2 but I’ve substituted some words.
Thread One: The Spirit of The Creator
In my book, I’ve substituted the word “Lord” for “Creator”, since the focus is on the Weave, a tangible thing made by a tangible Creator. Isaiah refers to this spirit as the Spirit of the Lord or the Spirit of יְהוָ֑ה (Yahweh). Again, my book is a fiction and I’m not relating any character or ideas to the sacred name of YHWH directly, only by inference.
In my book, this thread and aspect of the Spirit warp string, is best understood by those who are endowed with the gift of Breaking. While they have the capacity to break apart material reality, like stone, earth, wood and metal, destroying and crushing, cleaving and undoing, they also are the ones capable of breaking bonds and curses. Often mistaken for those that would ruin the world, they are often the one who overthrow, liberate and set loose.
Thread Two: The Spirit of Wisdom
This aspect of the Spirit string is best understood by those who have eyes that see, and can discern between good and evil, those with the gift of Dividing. Wisdom is found beyond what is and what can be but touches on what should and shouldn’t be. This thread separates and weighs as a scale would helping Dividers weigh knowledge and council. Wisdom offers security, ease and safety. It keeps and guards, it exalts and bestows honor.
“For the simple are killed by their turning away,
and the complacency of fools destroys them;
33but whoever listens to me will dwell secure
and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.” Proverbs 1:32-33, ESV
“5Get wisdom; get insight;
do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.
6Do not forsake her, and she will keep you;
love her, and she will guard you.
7The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom,
and whatever you get, get insight.
8Prize her highly, and she will exalt you;
she will honor you if you embrace her.
9She will place on your head a graceful garland;
she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.” Proverbs 4:5-9
It’s no accident I’ve placed this spirit with those who operate amongst law and judgement. Wisdom speaks as much as it sees.
Thread Three: The Spirit of Understanding
This aspect of the Spirit warp string is known well by those with the gifts for Keeping. Caregivers, mentors, clerks, historians all utilize this spirit thread well. Those who can assess and feel their way through a conversation or interaction, reading more than what is at surface level but sensing what lays deep beneath the surface. This thread lends well to communication of all sorts, as well as translation and interpretation. The nurse who gages how to make her ward more comfortable, the mother who know how to quiet an inconsolable child, the archivist who knows just where to find what book, the historian who can extrapolate the key moment from centuries of war, the animal trainer who whispers and is obeyed, all these work with understanding.
Thread Four: The Spirit of Council
This aspect of Spirit is best utilized by those with the gift of Seeking. They operate in a world of other. Constantly looking outward toward what is lost that needs finding, what is undiscovered that could be discovered, what is meaningless and should have meaning, what belongs to no-one and could have belonging. Seekers seek knowledge, experiences, people, commodities, opportunities, wealth, adventure, knowledge, wisdom and all that can be had in the weave, but most of all the presence of Spirit itself and its conversation and nearness. Their gifting which takes them outside of themselves into other, makes them a fantastic resource of council to others as a conduit that is always bringing together and gathering in.
Thread Five: The Spirit of Might
Those gifted with Watching best understand and utilize this thread. They are warriors and mighty ones. All that crosses into their domain of sight are subject to their power which is contained by rules and laws for they are a formidable order. Supernatural strength and power accompany them in all that they do. Some have been know to slay entire armies alone. The Watchers’ gift of sight is capable of determining who or what is a genuine threat, without and within. They often subject themselves to the same mighty power that would destroy others, killing off that which makes one weak and ineffective. They deal in the protection of life and death of that which brings death.
Thread Six: The Spirit of Knowledge
This thread of Spirit is best utilized by those with the gift of Making. Craftsman and artisans, producers and creators, operators and designers, engineers and farmers, those who make everything from food, clothes, buildings or infrastructures to art, jewelry, tools, book and furniture, they operate with knowledge. Knowing their trade, their business, their skills and being known by them. Knowing that relates to value and appreciation, and ends with efficiency and ingenuity. Their knowledge creates provision and resources.
Thread Seven: The Spirit of Reverence of the Creator
This final major thread of the Spirit warp string is best understood by those with the gift of Giving. Isaiah refers to this as the Spirit of the fear of the Lord (Yahweh) but again, my book is fiction and allegorical. Also, this day and age we associate fear with horror movies. I know too many people who are afraid of God, imagining Him as another villain in their story rather than the one who is the source of Love and Light. The root word used for fear, yirah, has more than one meaning. It does mean fear, as one would fear death, reverence and awe.
My problem with using that word in this day and age has to do with the moral implications we place upon the one or the thing we fear. As first world persons, we believe if someone to be feared it is probably because they are bad. Too powerful, too corrupt, too aggressive, too psychotic, too sedistic, too evil. Sometimes we encounter those people and the correct response is fear. However when we are talking about a Good God, its hard to disassociate the word from the evil that tugs on it. Perhaps understanding fear and God as we would understand the Grand Canyon, may help. We find the Canyon beautiful beyond comparison and it puts us in awe. However if we get too close to the edge the fear of losing our life to its endless depths paralyzes us and keeps us from encroaching too close to its edges. The Canyon isn’t evil or corrupt, it’s just dangerous in its immensity. Dangerous Beauty is a term I used to refer to God often in my book Insualtion Atonement. That kind of fear is known as reverence.
That being said those that Giver are highly in tune to reverence to the Creator. This whole world is one immense canyon of blessing, and true happiness and rapture is found not only gazing into its depths but descending down into them. These are the ones that serve, that surrender and submit, who are laid bare and give up. They are so full with awe and reverence for Creator and Creation they empty themselves of self to be full with more creation, more creator. Such a downward posture is natural when one can grasp the fullness of all they have been given. Givers understand this well. The spirit of reverence is a spirit of generosity from, and trust in, the creator.
Other Threads
Some other threads of spirit are recognized but aren’t included in Isaiahs seven fold spirit list. They include the Spirit of Light, Spirit of Revelation and Spirit of Truth. These are utilized by those with the gift of Seeing, as well as some of the already mentioned one. Seers, in my book, are a little bit of a mystery. But we should expect no different of the ones who operate on the boundaries of shadow and light.
