Warp Strings: The Basis of Reality

Have you even wondered why you seem so utterly connected and disconnected at the same time? How one minute you feel as if you’ve lived forever and life too long, and then all the sudden feel as if you are a child and your life far too short? How it can seem as if life is as unexplainable as your place in it, only to be struck with the realization that nothing is new under the sun and you do belong here and now?

The constant pull we feel in humanity between that which we know and experience and that which we don’t know but experience none the less is explained reasonably through the concept of the The Weave. As I’ve written of before in my previous post, it’s the underlayment of reality. As Author John Eldridge puts it, we are amphibious creatures belonging in two worlds simultaneously. The weave separates and connects us to such dichotomies.

To better understand this concept of the Weave and the role it plays in our very real and unreal lives, I’d like to explain the concept beneath the concept; the concept of warp strings can hopefully shed light on the Weave. In my fiction novel, the heroine is introduced to the idea of the Warp Strings which are the substrate on which the Weave is Woven. If she can understand what they are and what they do, she will have the potential to interact with the Weave in a deep and meaningful way, like the other protagonists in the story already do themselves.

So what are warp strings? In practical terms, they are the strings or threads that run vertically in a loom, attached to the frame and lay the foundation on which the colorful threads or yarns are woven through. Warp strings disappear into the tapestry but are vital to the tapestries existence. They don’t tell the story but are essential to whatever story is being told. No warp strings means no weaving, no fabric, nothing to show.

Warp Strings, according to my novel, have their basis in a singular source. They were strung upon the framework of cosmic law but the Great Weaver, the Creator. This has been a fun muse to ponder and I still continue to flush through its details and implications but below I’ll take you through what I have so far.

How many Warp Strings are there?

In my current novel, the heroine is trained to understand three Warp Strings but we will see in the next book, she will come to know a fourth warp string. Let’s look at each Warp String and what they represent.

The Warp String of Light

Light represents that which can be Seen and Understood. It is the Vision that is put out into the world. Light in scientific terms is the packet of photons that travel to the eye as well as the wave of electromagnetic frequency undulating towards the same. Light dispels darkness and illuminates matter. It gives definition and clarity, supplies meaning, dimension and discernment to what surrounds us. Light is also capable of producing or transferring energy. Thermal and radiant energy travel and are produced by light. Every sun in the cosmos testifies to that fact. The Light of our own beautiful sun sustains life on this planet. Light sustains sanity. Light rejuvenates.

According the one of the characters of my book, the Light String was the first string laid down by the Creator of the Weave. Light was the first interaction in reality against the chaos of unlimited potential filling the darkness. All that could be was given a singular point of order; that which could be seen and that which wouldn’t be seen was determined by Light. All possibility was spread out before the Creator in the unseen infinity of the mind, but it was that which drew Sight to the Mind’s Eye that warranted illumination.

The Warp String of Word

Word comes after Light. If the Light reveals what could be, then it is Word that calls forth what should be. Word is an extension of Will. An expression of desire, want and intention. How do we know that someone wants our attention? They speak our name, call us on the phone. Word is one of our first interactions with meaning in this life. Our name, of course. Names are a grounding rod of identity, not only to which family we belong to, but who we are, how we are singled out. Sound itself is a marvel, another expression of that blessed electromagnetic spectrum that infiltrates everything. You emit sound. I emit sound. The trees emit sound. Even the rocks call forth praise. Blood and land cry out for justice. Spoken Word penetrates the soul and the tongue has power of life and death. Music and lyrics can transform and enrapture, it can transport and transfigure the mind and body just as powerfully.

The Creator spoke all things into being. By Word the worlds were made. The Vision that was deemed the greatest good, that which Light illuminated brightest in the Creator’s eye, that is what was uttered forth by Decree into reality. That which was realized was that which was chosen. Word requires choice. Word introduces Will that is free and autonomous.

The Warp String of Spirit

Spirit comes before Word and perhaps even before Light, however the Spirit String is laid down last. First and the Last. Spirit is the animated life force of the one who weaves in the first place. Spirit can be understood as breath, wind or air, but it is better understood as ever moving, ever acting power or presence. It is the energy by which all things live and move and have their being. For those who believe the Creation story of Genesis 1, the Spirit is a personified being hovering over the face of the deep, in the Gospels it’s seen as a dove transcending the heavens to flutter, rest and fly away. Always moving, unrestrained to any one place for long. For those who believe in a Big Bang Theory, Spirit is the outward moving chain reaction of nuclear transformation across the entire cosmos, the Dark Energy and Dark Matter moving and pulling and pushing still to this day. Spirit is what we can’t see with our eye organs, can’t hear with our ears organs, can’t feel with our epidermis; spirit is what we see in our dreams, hear in our hearts, feel beneath our skin, feel in our gut.

When the Creator hovered over all possibility and infiltrated the darkness with light, then called forth what was good by Word, reality took shape much like we know it. Materials, matter, elements emerge to the scene. Building materials like molecules and atoms, chemicals and relationships at a microscopic and quantum level form and avail. Then comes the Spirit String. Inanimate vessels are made animate with whirling and whizzing electrical motion, moving and pulling and pushing, from the tiniest ion within us to the very beating of our hearts. Life ebbs and flows as one grand orchestra of movement. Breath. Pumping heart. Pulsating brain waves. Osmosis of the fish gill to extract spirit giving life air from water. The inhalation of one gas in exchange of another gas by every green leaf under the sun, the spirit on the move.

The death of the body is another testament of the unseen tangibility of the Spirit String. When one breathes their last breath, it is very obvious that their animating force is gone. They are gone. Whatever filled them and was one with them is irrevocably no longer present. Instead absence is tangible. Void. Waste.

How are Light, Word and Spirit connected?

These three aspects of reality, are laid out in a perpetual repeating pattern. They are all emanated from a singular source. Call it Creator, Intelligent Designer, God, Highest Good, Perfection. Whatever the source is called, whatever it is, it certainly is not accidental, not random, not nothing. It was not a coincidental beneficial mutation extracted from the infinite sea of all possible luck and happenings. The source is intention. Intention comes from a mind, a heart, a soul. The source they meet from is the First and Greatest mind, heart and soul. A Triumvirate of Strings originating in a Triumvirate of Being.

What of this supposed Fourth String?

The fourth string we may see is not quite like the others. Rather than being a determiner of reality in its own measure, the debated fourth string I’ll introduce will be known as the Shadow String. This string is more like the antithetical antecedent of the other strings, namely the Light String. As I said before, the Light illuminates what is the focus of the Creators eye, and that illumination always casts a shadow. The shadow is not a thing per say, but the silhouette or evidence of a thing, the backside of a thing. The shadow side of an illuminated object still proffers that same characteristics of the object, however different senses are needed to understand the object in the dark. Eyes are rendered useless in the Shadow and even ears can deceive you. What you touch with your fingers may not be what you believe or hope it to be. Danger lingers in the Shadow because of it’s close proximity to void and deep darkness. However, not all shadow is to be feared. Restoration and rest is to be found in the shadow as well, but it goes by another name. Shade. When blazing light is far more piercing and more intense than we can bare, its the shade we retreat to, the shadow of something other that can shield us from the power of light.

In book 2, my heroine will engage this string along with the others.
