The Firstborn Race: Elderi

The High Realm, according to my novel The Weaving of Dreams, is the world on the other side of the Second Realm, a place of divine beauty and superior existence. Created in the Weave long before the Second Realm was formed, The High Realm is the home of the Elderi, the race of the Firstborns. The Creator fashioned these beings not from dirt and water as the Second Born were. No, the Elder Race was formed of star dust and fire. They are illuminations scattered across the cosmos to combat the darkness and illuminate the darkness particularly in the Second Realm. They indeed have the shape and form of material beings but are by nature are divine.

Names for Elderi

Throughout the ages they’ve had names like Brilliant Ones, Bright ones, Majesties, Holy Ones, Radiant Hosts, Spirits Above, Immortals, Ghosts, and least generous, Otherkind.

The names referring to brilliance are self evident. The Elderi are literally radiant. When their true form is exposed by pure light, they shimmer with a blinding glow, their eyes are like fire, their hair like metal, their skin molten stone. Walking, breathing, stars.

They are also known as spirits and vapors because in the 2nd realm they can simply come and go, be seen and then unseen. They disappear and can make others disappear with them, without a trace left behind. Some have been seen in the midst of shadow, nothing more than eyes and voice, some can’t be seen at all and only felt and heard.

Still there are others that can’t be explained. Otherkind. They are creatures, monsters, of the Elder race that don’t look like the other beings but have the same presence and capacities as them. These may look like an amalgam of creatures or like an elder gone wrong. Over the ages, this has become the prominent name for the elder race according to most of the second born common folk. Otherkind are anything and anyone from the Otherside, the common name give to the High Realm.

Lastly the Elderi are called Immortals because no one in the second realm know how long they live, but it appears they live forever. Some second born families can track communications and assistance from the same Elder across centuries in their family line. Because of their nature, Elderi are superior in strength, size and healing ability, making them hard to damage. The access they have to knowledge, wisdom and understanding has bequeathed them with the technology and necessities to regenerate their physiology and biology indefinitely.

Role of the Elderi

So what do they do? Why were they created? Elderi combat Darkness with Light, the dispel Chaos with Order. The Creator formed them first, the first fruits of the “womb” in order to fill the cosmos with family but also lead their siblings into the blessing of their cosmic father and mother. The Creator. The Source. The Warp Strings laid down by the Creator came first, then came the Weft Strings; the Elderi and the High realm among those first weavings. It was always the Creator’s intention for the Elderi to Participate in the Weavings of the worlds, so in addition to making them creations of Light, the Create also gave them Gifts by which to use in Ordering the worlds alongside Him. Extensions of the Creator’s nature and authority given according to His will and pleasure, woven into their lives as part of the grand tapestry of beauty.

Over time, these gifts which helped order the cosmos became known as The Orders.

The Orders

The idea of Orders and Elderi is nearly inseparable. Elderi believe themselves to be servants, loyal to the Creator and loyal to the rest of creation. The have a firm grasp on honor and allegiance above all else. They honor the Creator and therefore honor each other, particularly through allegiance to the orders and the value their work and gifts brings to the realm.

There are 8 Orders: seers, watchers, seekers, dividers, makers, breakers, keepers and givers. Now there are the weavers but these could be considered a class rather than an order. The Orders are grouped according to the gifts and spirits that resonate with them most. Each Order resonates with a particular thread on the Spirit Warp string and particular threads of the Light String and Word String as well.

For example: the Order of the Makers, it resonates with the thread of Spirit of knowledge and a thread of light Warp string for vision, but it most resonates with the Word warp string in general. As all things came into being by the Creator’s Word, so too the Makers create all things that can be created. Makers create things that are necessary, useful and tangible: buildings, tools, clothing, roads, gardens, jewelry, foods, drinks, books. Makers also create things that are a little more intangible: bonds, agreements, offspring, environments, experiences. This order is perhaps the most populated of the orders. Makers keep the realm feed, clothed and sheltered, as well as beautifully and reliably secure at a basic level.

The Orders work together to ensure the realm is balanced and thriving. They are a connection point between the individual Elder and at the whole of the race, the realm, and the Creator. Some Elder may resonate with a few Orders but vow their strength to one they choose. This choice and vow is crucial to the mastery they develop over the ages. Once mastery is developed, Elderi will often venture into another order to learn and grow, but they never forsake their own order.
